The sailing season is now almost a thing of the past laying up supper a time gone by and next seasons sailing on the horizon. This summary focuses on the sailing events of the year rather more than the Duck club member activities, not that they didn't get up to much though - just a diverse year! The year started with a good old overall of the keel and a medium amount of effort on the hull below the waterline. It was b***** cold, as I remember now, sat under the boat scraping away at the antifouling on the steel keel. Occasionally, another yachty would turn up to do a bit of this or that to their 'babies', but mostly I seemed to brave the elements alone. With a final flourish of the electric polisher I felt all the effort was worth it as I stood back to admire the sheen - thank goodess!
The start of the season went to plan with no problems encountered and sailing in the Solent was, as always, very much of a pleasure, old friends, new friends and lots of fun. One of the memorable events of the year was the RNSA trip to Yarmouth. A good turnout for the walk through the local country side finishing at the pub was great and the evening meet at a local restaurant went down well. Don's party aboard his 'power' boat was well received and the snacks a great success, not to mention the drinks!
Our summer holidays, as always, were aboard and we were again drawn south to Guernsey for a couple of days and then on to Brittany. Trebeurden was delightful and I couldn't be dragged any further. The locals, marina dwellers and the scene was idyllic.
If that was not exciting enough for the year then our booking in to the International Festival of the Sea topped everything! Absolutely brilliant! Weather, entertainment, new ships, old ships, the whole package was superb. We managed to persuade our friends from Florida/Yarmouth to 'crew' with us in Portsmouth Dockyard - Wow!
Wow! Follow that! Hopefully I can report as much fun in next years summary. For now though it's back to planning and implementing the refit. Oh! and then there is the skiing for Christmas if I'm lucky. Thats about it for this release so enjoy the winter. The new social programme is posted so give it a look and forward any events that can be mentioned in it. Yours aye, The 'Scribe'
